15 Months

Dear Case,

I can't believe you are 15 months old already!  Last week we got to have lots of extra fun with Daddy because we got hit with an ice storm.  We ended up with about 2 inches of ice and Daddy got to stay home from work with us for two days!  Mommy was scared to lose power with you in the house but God was watching out for us because it only went out for about 45 minutes and in that time Daddy already had a fire in the fireplace (thanks to your Grandma and Grandpa Johnston for bringing us wood).

On Saturday (2/5/11) you got to play in the snow for the first time.  It was a little bit tricky because we got about 5 inches of snow on top of that ice so you did a little slipping and sliding but overall I  think you had fun.  You loved watching the snow jump with each kick of your foot.

Yesterday was another big day worthy of a baby book entry, if only your momma was so organized.  We had our first "break out the first aid kit" moment.  I was making your lunch and went to shut the silverware drawer at the same time that you did.  This resulted in your longest cry session and a pretty good chunk out of your left pinky.  There wasn't a lot of blood but it sure looked bad.  After two tries I finally got you bandaged up and chased it with pretty much anything you wanted after that.  You ate a lot of cookies and blueberries after that injury!

You have made A LOT of progress in the teeth department since my last update.  You now have four teeth in the front that are all the way through and almost all the way in.  Your smile looks so much different and grown up with these teeth in.  You still have only the two teeth on the bottom but I'm wondering if you might be working on some molars because your fingers seem to spend a lot of time in the back of your mouth.  You'd never let me look though so I guess I'll know when I see you start chewing back there.

You still take two naps each day.  One around 10 and another between 3 and 4 (ideally but mommy misses the mark on these pretty frequently).  Your long nap is usually your morning one but that is only on days that mommy doesn't decide to lay down too.  On the days Mommy takes a nap too you seem to have some sort of radar and make it a shorter nap.  You still sleep great at night.  Your bedtime is around 8:30 or 9 although sometimes we miss the mark on that as well.  Bedtime is a special time for you and Daddy.  You tell me goodnight with a hug and a kiss and then you and Daddy go into your room where he reads to you and sings to you.  I'm not sure what else happens because it's a boys only time but I know Daddy sure loves this time with you!  You usually sleep until 7:30 in the morning.  Mommy LOVES that you are such a good sleeper and I'm really hoping that you keep that up once your little brother arrives.

Eating... oh eating.  This might be Mommy's least favorite part of the day.  There are very few foods that I know you will eat.  These include most fruits but especially blueberries.  I think you'd eat the entire pint if I put it in front of you.  Cheese and yogurt melts are my only other guarantees.  You will usually eat those gross little meat sticks from a jar.  This is disgusting to me but I'm glad you get some protein this way because it is about the only meat you will eat.  Every morning I make you an egg with garlic salt and cheese in it.  Some days you will eat all of it and others half of it is a battle.  Lunch usually consists of grilled cheese, meat sticks, or cheese and crackers.  Dinner is a struggle and I think I'll just leave it at that.  I never know what you'll be eating by the time dinner rolls around.  I think you might be more of a grazer than a meal eater.  You LOVE snacks especially when you can walk around and eat them and don't have to be in your chair.

Playtime just keeps getting more and more fun with you!  You are definitely all boy because you love to rough house.  Your favorite thing still seems to be to have me sit on the floor so you can bring me book after book to read.  I think this is my favorite part as well; although there are a few books that I'd be ok with taking a break from like My Merry Christmas and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  You love when Daddy is home and chases you around the house or jumps out and scares you too!  You giggle so much when Daddy plays with you!  You still love taking the broom and "sweeping" whenever Mommy gets it out and the refrigerator is still another of your favorite spots to play.  I love watching you play!!!

You are starting to pay more attention to the television now.  Sesame Street seems to be your favorite and the everything stops when the music for Abby's Flying Fairy School starts... your daddy couldn't be prouder:-)  You also still LOVE music.  You love to dance and will point to the stereo so that I will turn it on for you.

We had your 15 month well baby visit with Dr. Freeman on Friday (2/4/11).  I really like your doctor.  He's very laid back, which I think is really good for Mommy!  You were 25 pounds 11 ounces (67%), 33 inches tall (94%), and your head is 48cm (75%).  You haven't gained much weight since your last visit but the doctor said you were perfectly fine.  He asked if you were talking much.  You say shoes, DaDa, herego (here you go), baby, peek-a-boo, boo (for what does a cow say), and probably a few others that I haven't quite figured out yet.  Dr. Freeman asked if you said Mommy and got a big kick out of it when I said you still didn't say Mommy.  Him and Daddy are very entertained by this!  He also talked about how tall you are.  I have no idea where you get this because Mommy and Daddy are just average height, in fact Daddy might even be kind of short but don't tell him I said that.  The doctor was very happy to hear that you love books so much!  This made Mommy very proud of you!!!  I asked your doctor what we should be doing to prepare you for your baby brother and he said there's really nothing we can do.  He said we might see some regression in you but that he thinks you are young enough that we might not see much of anything change in you.  I'm going to hope for the latter of those two options.

Little boy we love you more than words can say.  I can't begin to count the number of times you make us smile on any given day.  So many times Daddy and I will just look at each other in awe of how much we love you and how cute we think you are.  You bring us SO much joy and happiness.  Thank you for being the little boy that you are.  We love you more than words can say!

Love always!
Mommy
